What does your inner voice tell you every day? Does it flood you with negative thoughts? Worries? Doubts? Fears?
We all have a little voice inside of us. That voice narrates our life and helps us makes sense of the world, but it can also create a lot of harmful noise.
My inner voice got really nasty right as I was coming up with the idea for Brains over Blonde. I told my parents my idea and they were PISSED. Horrified. Disappointed. Their ex-Googler Stanford MBA daughter wanted to be a… blogger? They said the word with disgust. They told me it was vain, that it wasn’t a viable business model, that I’d never make any money, and that no one would ever hire me afterward. Those words terrified me. They imprinted on my brain and repeated in my head over and over again until they became my own. And if I hadn’t put a stop to the cycle of negative talk in my head, those words would have come true.
How much is the negative self-talk in your head actually serving you?
At best, these negative thoughts are repetitive and annoying. More likely, they’re limiting beliefs that are sabotaging you from achieving your goals.
Limiting beliefs skew your perception of what’s possible and create the bounds of your reality. Just by believing these nasty limiting beliefs, we inherently block ourselves from doing the things that they inhibit. Every time you tell yourself “I can’t/I don’t/I won’t/I’m not…,” you’re fortifying that limiting belief deeeeeeeep into your nervous system, so it only gets worse with time. EW.
Why the f would we do this to ourselves? We engage in self-limiting behaviors because:
- As humans, we’re resistant to change.
- Subconsciously, we may believe we’re unworthy of our desires, so we sabotage ourselves so we can’t fail.
But remember how I said we live in the confines of our own beliefs? That’s actually SUPER EXCITING NEWS because if you reset your beliefs about yourself, you can define a new reality. You’ll see that you’re worthy of your desires and believe in your ability to manifest them. That’s where the magic happens & all aspects of your life will start falling into place like dominoes.
I was determined to build Brains over Blonde into a massive brand that positively impacted women all over the world, but there was NO WAY I could do that with all those limiting beliefs rattling around in my head. I know I had to reset my beliefs about myself, and one of my favorite ways to do that is with a badass personal mantra.
WTF is a personal mantra?
The word “mantra” comes from Sanskrit. Broken down, “man” means “mind” and “tra” means “instrument.” So, think of a “mantra” as a “mind instrument.” Rad, right?
Your mantra (or “mind instrument”) manifests your thoughts into things. Repeating your mantra keeps you focused on your intention and surrounds you with positivity and strength. When we’re conscious of our desires, we have the ability inside of us to be the person we want to be. Words have immense power to affect our actions and how we see ourselves.
Ready to create your new reality?
The formula for creating a personal mantra
Step 1: Identify your limiting belief
Remember those repetitive, nagging fears? We’re going to use those. If something isn’t naturally flowing into your life, it’s likely because one of these limiting beliefs is blocking you.
As always, I’ll volunteer to be the test case. One repetitive fear that follows me around is, “I’ll never make enough money doing what I love.”
Step 2: What do you want instead?
Replace that limiting belief with a present, positive affirmation.
Present means that you speak in the now, rather than the future. A future-oriented phrase sounds like “I want to have money.” Instead, phrase your mantra in the present tense with “I am” or “I have” or “I love.”
Positive means you avoid words like “no” and “not.” Rather than saying “I’m not worried about money,” I’d say “I have all the money I could ever need and want.”
Step 3: Visualize
In this new reality, what qualities will you have? How will you spend your time? What emotions will you feel? Feel free to add these qualities and emotions to your mantra with sentences like, “I love how prosperous and abundant my life is.”
One sentence makes a great mantra; it’s quick and to the point! Once you really get into it, you may want to add more (I obvs do). Just repeat steps 1-3 a few times until your mantra fully embodies the reality you desire.
If you get stuck, here are a few ideas to get the wheels turning:
- for self-image: I love myself. I’m beautiful. I’m confident. I’m worthy of love.
- for business: I’m fearless. I’m brilliant. I’m resilient. I’m powerful.
- for relationships: I’m worthy of love. I choose to surround myself with people who love and adore me.
- for wellness: I love my body. I fuel my body. I love to move.
- for finance: I love prosperity. I love abundance. Money flows naturally into my bank account.
“My name is Anna. I love and value my true self and I know that I’m dope as fuck. I love abundance, prosperity, sacred relationships, & fulfillment and I attract them naturally. I have so much to offer to the world, so I share my good energy & let the good energy come back to me.”

You will change your life when you change your thinking
Once you have your mantra, think about how it feels to live this new reality. REALLY FEEL IT! Take on the energy of your mantra into your being. It’s not about just “saying” your mantra on autopilot – it’s about actually embodying it and living it.
Start by repeating your mantra OUT LOUD to yourself at least 3 times in the mirror every morning (and ideally, multiple times a day!) It’s ok to have this on a post-it on your mirror until you memorize it. If you’re an overachiever, you can even make your mantra your phone or laptop wallpaper… just sayin.
Once you release your limiting beliefs, you’ll see that you’re worthy of your desires & believe in your ability to manifest them. This mantra will plant a seed, repeating it will fertilize it, and eventually, it will bear fruit. That’s where the magic happens & you’ll see all aspects of your life fall into place together like dominoes (my clients frequently begin a new career path, hit their goal weight, & find a healthy loving relationship all within the same MONTH!)
